CEDAR FALLS - John F. Halbach, 87, of Willowwood, Western Home Communities, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at the Western Home Communities Standard Assisted Living Center.

He was born March 15, 1918, in Stacyville, son Peter and Mary Brumm Halbach. He married Rose C. Comisky Aug. 21, 1945, in Osage. She died June 26, 2003.

He graduated from Iowa State University in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. Mr. Halbach farmed near Osage for 20 years, then was with the Carnation Co., Waterloo, as the milk sanitarian and then with the city of Waterloo as the sanitarian.

Survived by three sons, Thomas (Sally) of Boise, Idaho, Gerald (Patrice) of North Oaks, Minn., and Michael (Valerie) of Minneapolis; three daughters, Anne (John) Hartson of Iowa City, Jane (Richard) Westley of Madison, Wis., and Patricia (Harold) Moore of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren; and a sister, Agnes Buch of Elgin, Ill.

Preceded in death by four brothers; and three sisters.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Richardson Funeral Home, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture service, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Western Home Communities, St. Patrick Catholic Church or St. Stephen the Witness Catholic Student Center at UNI.
