WATERLOO, IOWA - Leah Bartlett Daggett, 93, of Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly, formerly of Waterloo and Baileyville, Ill., died Thursday, April 5, 2007, at the Waverly Health Center.

She was born June 4, 1913, in Waterville, Maine, daughter of John Millard and Mary Ann Cayouette Bartlett. She married Horace Purinton Daggett on Nov. 17, 1939, in Waterville. He died June 26, 1969.

She received her LPN from Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City; attended Colby College, Waterville; and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in fine arts from the University of Northern Iowa.

During her residence in Waterloo, she worked as an art instructor at the Waterloo Recreation and Art Center, taught elementary school at St. Edward's Catholic School, Washburn Elementary and Sumner Elementary School, Sumner. She was also a social director at Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center.

She served as a dean of students at Mooseheart, located in Napierville, Ill., and taught elementary education on the Unitah Indian reservation in Utah and in Blackfoot, Idaho.

She also was a guest music critic for the Waterloo Courier and was active with the Waterloo Community Playhouse.

Survived by a son, John (Carrie) of Fort Collins, Colo.; two daughters, Jeanne (Jack) Daggett-Kemp of Waterloo and JoAnn (Mark) Hamer of Baileyville; nine grandchildren, Tamara Jo (Paul) Mitchell, Jeffrey Alan (Chris) Kemp, Gregory Thomas (Kris) Kemp, Megan Kathleen Kemp, Eric Noel Landes, Marcia Liesl Landes, Christopher John Hamer, Ryan Daggett Hamer and Leslie Ann Hamer; and 13 great-grandchildren, Emma and William Mitchell, Kenny, Jon and Katie Kemp, Hannah, Maddie and Ella Kemp, Jaden and Todd Keller Jr., and Keena, Derek and Zachary Oxley.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son, Joshua; and a brother, Donald Bartlett.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3009 Pleasant Drive, Cedar Falls, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice or Cedar Bend Humane Society.
