HAWKEYE - James Theodore "Jim" Jessen Sr., 72, of Strawberry Point, formerly of Hawkeye and Waterloo, died Monday, March 28, 2005. at Northeast Iowa Christian Retirement Center, Strawberry Point, following a brief illness.

He was born Dec. 31, 1932, in Waterloo, son of Peter and Alma Beck Jessen Sr. He married Janice McKinney, and they later divorced. He married Hazel Horness in 1962, and they later divorced.

Mr. Jessen attended the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. He was an electrician at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 30 years. He also had served in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include three daughters, Rebecca (Dale) Daniel of Denton, Texas, Linda (Jim) Oelrich of Strawberry Point and Brenda (Scott Ludtke) Jessen Ludtke of Minneapolis; two sons, James Jr. of Dallas, Texas, and Lt. Col. Frederick (Suetlana) Jessen of Ankara, Turkey; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, John of Oelwein and Peter of Randalia.

Preceded in death by two sisters, an infant, and Donna Gilmore.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Strawberry Point, with burial in Stanley Cemetery, Stanley. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Roberson Funeral Home, Strawberry Point.
