WATERLOO - Victor K. Ackerman Sr., 77, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, March 26, 2005, at Parkview Nursing & Rehab Center of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 1, 1927, in Waterloo, son of John J. and Emma Averhoff Ackerman. He married Lois B. Drier on April 19, 1949, and they later divorced.

Mr. Ackerman worked at Rath Packing Co. in the smokehouse for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and the Merchant Marines during World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors include four sons, Victor Jr. of Cedar Falls, Ralph (Ann), David (Lorrinda) and Stanley (Deb), all of Waterloo; a daughter, Joyce Ackerman (Tim Wiederin) of Dysart; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild; three sisters, Helen (Francis) Hennessy of Waterloo, Lucille (Milton) Hrabvosky of Washburn and Louise (Jim) Bachman of Hazleton; and two brothers, John of Santa Rosa , Calif., and Martin of Sacramento, Calif.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Richard.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Garden of Memories. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
