LA PORTE CITY - Roger K. Donnelly, 71, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of La Porte City, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at St. Lukes Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness.

He was born on Sept. 11, 1933, in Schleswig, son of Clare and Eleanor Schmadeke Donnelly. He married Berni Marie Dahl on Sept. 4, 1967, at First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls. She died Feb. 7, 2005.

Mr. Donnelly graduated from La Porte City High School in 1951 and from Coe College, Cedar Rapids, in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army. He was employed by John Deere & Co. as a cost accountant. He moved back to La Porte City and joined his father in the familys trucking business. He later worked for Waconia Sorghum Co., Cedar Rapids, until 1979. In 1979 he joined Allen Motor Co. as a warranty administrator and customer service representative, retiring in 1999 after 20 years, although he was employed part time through 2003. He was president of the Seminole Valley Farm Museum and was co-founder of the N.E.I.S.C.C. (North East Iowa Sports Car Club).

Survivors include two sons, Michael S. (Angie) Dahl and Jon E. Dahl, both of Cedar Rapids; and three grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; and stepfather, Gay C. Howrey.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, with private family burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, both in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel, followed by a reception at Faith Bible Church, corner of South Mentzer Road and Council Street, Robins.
