GILBERTVILLE - Melvin L. "Buck" Fischels, 69, of Waterloo, formerly of Gilbertville, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at Grandview Care Center, Oelwein, from complications of Alzheimers disease.

He was born March 17, 1936, in Waterloo, son of Joseph and Florence Youngblut Fischels. He married Rosalie Schmitt on June 7, 1959, at St. Josephs Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Fischels was employed at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works northeast site for 25 years, retiring in 1998. He also had served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Monte of Waterloo; a daughter, Michelle Fischels of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Adam and Kendra Fischels; two sisters, Bonnie Weber of Gilbertville and Mary (Robert) Matthias of Waterloo; and four brothers, Ronald (Jackie) of Waterloo, Joe (Rosemary) of Gilbertville, Jerry of Dumont and Cleo (Jane) of Jesup.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Leo Weber.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Marys Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, with a 4 p.m. Senior Citizens rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Alzheimers Association.
