CEDAR FALLS – Addeene Marie Eiklor, 87, of Tigard, Ore., and a former longtime resident of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Libra Senior Care Home, Tigard.

She was born Feb. 18, 1927, in Westphalia, Kan., daughter of George and Glen Lizer. She married John L. Eiklor on Nov. 18, 1950, in Dodge City, Kan..

Addeene graduated from Wichita State University with a B.S. in botany/zoology and chemistry. She was a medical technologist and parasitologist, and completed her internship at Charity Hospital, New Orleans. She lived in Munich, Germany for seven years where she and her husband both worked at the University of Munich. In 1963 she moved to Cedar Falls, where she worked at Sartori Hospital. Later she worked teaching Head Start and at Bancroft Florist.

Survived by a daughter, Elisabeth (Lisa) Eiklor (son-in-law, Kent Addleman) of Tigard; a sister, Faye Barns of Dodge City; two nieces, Sydney Shepherd and Ann Henderson of Kansas City, Mo.; a nephew, Ed Barns of Enid, Okla.; and her caregivers, the Cosa family of Tigard.

Preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Betty Werner; and a niece, Kathy Werner Goldberg.

Remembrance and celebration of life: will be planned for this summer in Cedar Falls.

Memorials may be directed to the Hearst Center for the Arts, 304 Seerley Blvd., Cedar Falls 50613, for “the Addeene Eiklor memorial bench” in the butterfly garden.

Addeene was very active in politics, “Another Mother for Peace, " social justice movements, and within the university community.

She was and is a shining light. She loved life, her family, and her friends and with her beautiful smile and laughter continued to make friends to the end of her life.
