WATERLOO - Corlis D. "Corky" Boylan, 100, of Friendship Village, died Monday, April 21, 2014, at the Friendship Village Pavilion.

He was born March 13, 1914, in Waterloo, son of Merle and Grace Bartlett Boylan. He married Arlene Oman on Oct. 12, 1940, at Grace United Methodist Church in Waterloo.

He graduated from East Waterloo High School in 1933 and attended Morningside College and Iowa State Teachers College. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II constructing the Ledo Road in Burma. Corky worked in sales and service at John Deere from 1946 to 1961, sales manager at John Deere Dubuque Works from 1961 1969 and distribution manager at John Deere Waterloo Works until retiring in 1974. He then worked part-time for Short’s Travel. He was a member of Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 105 A.F. & A.M.

Survived by his wife: a son, Gale (Elaine) of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Joyce Marsch of Darien, Ill., and Patricia (Robert) Devens of Urbandale; eight grandchildren, Kevin (Laura) Boylan, Kim (Mark) Klamm, Scott (Sarah) Marsch, Andrew (Joni) Marsch, Sally (Joel) Bartlett, Sarah (Mike) Mundy, Sadie (Nate) Hatting and Sandy (Greg) Van Nostrand; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Fern Oman of West Des Moines and Maxine Boylan of Mission, Texas.

Preceded in death by a brother, Robert; a sister, Ruth Potter; and a son-in-law, Gary Marsch.

Celebration of life: 11 a.m. Saturday at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church. Mr. Boylan has donated his body to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Visitation will be for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church, Friendship Village Foundation or charity of donor’s choice.
