LA PORTE CITY - Esther Marie Harting, 88, of Ridgeway Place, Waterloo, formerly of rural LaPorte City, died unexpectedly Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at home following a brief illness.

She was born Feb. 3, 1917, at Jubilee, daughter of Herbert E. Benorden and Clara J. Schrader Benorden. She married Oscar Carl Harting Nov. 17, 1937, at Zion Lutheran Church, Jubilee. He died Oct. 26, 1992.

She attended the Jubilee school and then graduated from Jesup High School with the class of 1934. Mrs. Harting farmed with her husband at Jubilee all of their married life. She was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church at Jubilee. She was a homemaker, caregiver and dedicated member of her church, who enjoyed gardening, sports, playing cards, and her family.

Survived by two sons, Gary (Donna) and Ronald (Jane), both of rural LaPorte City; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mae House of Rochester, Minn., and Ruth Greenway of Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Harting of rural Jesup; and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Miriam Apel; and three brothers, Paul Benorden, Aaron Benorden and Ralph Benorden.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Jubilee, rural LaPorte City, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church.
