WATERLOO - Emmett J. OBrien, 65, of Waterloo, died Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 11, 1948, in Williamsburg, son of Joe and Ruby Knipfer OBrien.

Emmett graduated from Williamsburg High School. He worked for many years at Nissen Universal in Cedar Rapids and enjoyed numerous community jobs. He also published a book in 2005 on the history of men’s basketball.

Survived by two sons, Cory (Carrie) of Waterloo and Chris OBrien of Phoenix; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Pat OBrien and Jeanette OBrien.

Preceded in death by a daughter; his father, Joe OBrien; his mother, Ruby Duggan; his stepfather, Richard Duggan; and a sister, Cathy OBrien.

A memorial service is being planned. Memorial visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo.
