WATERLOO - Catherine E. Dawson, 84, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born May 6, 1929, in Independence, daughter of Lyle and Beatrice Fowlkes Fernau. She married Forrest Adkisson on July 31, 1950, in Waterloo; he preceded her in death. She married Harold Dawson on Dec. 11, 1954, in Ponca, Neb.; he died Aug. 23, 2005.

Catherine worked for the National Tea Co. until 1976 after 26 years, and then retired from Martin Brothers, Cedar Falls, after 15 years.

Survived by a daughter, Connie Dawson of Waterloo; five stepsons, Ronnie (Kim) Dawson of Montgomery, Ala., Raymond (Lydia) Dawson of Prescott, Ariz., Rex (Karen) Dawson of Arizona, Roger Dawson of Phoenix and Richard (Linda) Dawson of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Matt (Marie) Fernau of Waterloo; and three sisters, Thelma Jean Foster of Jesup, Rosemary (Richard) Geary of Oelwein and Mary Paden of Frederika.

Preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bud, Loren and Norman Fernau; and four sisters, Merle Zuke, Marjory Remetch, Grace Fernau and Donna Spece.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, with inurnment at a later date in Waterloo Cemetery. Visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and an hour before services Monday at the chapel.
