LA PORTE CITY - Robert V. Johnson, 75, of La Porte City, formerly of Cedar Falls, died at home Tuesday, April 8, 2014.

He was born Dec. 21, 1938, in Parkersburg, son of Johns and Gerdena Molendorp Johnson. He married Connie Wilson on April 18, 1959, in Cedar Falls, and they later divorced. He married Mary Chapman Rieks on July 2, 1998, in La Porte City.

Robert graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1958, and was a fireman with the Cedar Falls Fire Department for 30 years, retiring in 1994. He also was a boat mechanic and gunsmith.

Survived by his wife; four sons, Aaron (Sherry) of Silver Lake, Kan., Greg of Cedar Rapids, Brent (Carolyn) of La Porte City and Brice (Rachel) of Dubuque; three stepdaughters, Tamara (John) Easton of Tallahassee, Fla., Julie Steimel of Waterloo and Jeanette (Ryan) Riggle of Suwanee, Ga.; a stepson, William Porter of Iowa City; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Harvey of Cedar Falls; and two sisters, Carol Green of Cedar Falls and Jean Boer of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by 11 sisters and two brothers.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, La Porte City, with inurnment at a later date. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, at the church. Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls, is assisting the family.

A memorial fund has been established.
