WATERLOO - Andrew A. "Andy" Puhl, 85, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Oct. 13, at Allen Memorial Hospital of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 4, 1920, in Humbolt County, son of Jacob and Helen Appolonia Lechmann Puhl who were German Russians emigrating from Seewald and Rothammel, Russia to the United States in 1910. He married Marlys Igou Nov. 23, 1940, in the rectory at St. Marys Church in Waterloo. She died April 13, 1992.

Mr. Puhl was a veteran of World War II having served with the Army in the European Theater. He worked at the 7-Up Company, Hudson Hardware, and retired in 1979 after 30 years at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works.

Survived by two daughters, Luanne Puhl of Peoria, Ariz., and Cedar Falls, and Kathy (Steve) Scanlon of Waterloo; and three grandchildren, Molly, Chris and Nick Scanlon.

Preceded in death by his parents; and all his siblings, a sister, Ann Marie Horner; and six brothers, John in infancy, James, Joseph, Peter, Paul and Edward.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donors choice.
