WATERLOO - Helen Kathryn Surly, 87, of Waterloo, died Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born June 11, 1926, in Denver, daughter of Vernon and Lucy Deeming Fritz. On March 15, 1949, she married John Clifford Surly; he died in 1976.

Helen graduated high school in 1944 and was a housewife.

Survived by four daughters, Karen Lienemann of Nashua, Kathy (Roger) Siebrands of Mesa, Ariz., Norma (Gordon) Perry of Bartlesville, Okla., and Linda (Gary) Sigler of Waterloo; three sons, John (Peggy), Leonard (Betty) and Marvin (Charlene), all of Waterloo; 24 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents; a son, Vernon Leo; a daughter, Mary Campbell; two grandchildren, Jason Hutchinson and Shelby Teckenburg; and a son-in-law, David Lienemann.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Famiily Service, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. today and an hour before services Wednesday at the chapel.

Memorials may be directed to Care Initiatives Hospice

Helen enjoyed flowers, gardening and canning; playing cards; fishing and boating; riding her bike and playing accordion. Her family will especially remember her wonderful crub (dumplings)! Helen will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
