WATERLOO - Joseph J. Brustkern, 64, of Waterloo, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 5, 1936, in Waterloo, son of William J. and Gladys Bedard Brustkern. He married Viola Ford in 1958, and they were later divorced. He then married Donna Burggraf on Jan. 21, 1978, at St. John's Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Brustkern worked as a laborer with Rath Packing Co. for 29 years, and then was a truck driver for PCI for many years.

Survived by: his wife; a son, Mike of Waterloo; three stepsons, Todd Nelson of Erie, Pa., Randy Nelson of La Porte City and Mike Nelson of Waterloo; a daughter, Sue Lawrence of Waterloo; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three brothers, Derwin of Washington, Ind., William of Denver and John of Waterloo; and four sisters, Mary Ann Pierce of Waterloo, Meriam "Mickey" Rand of Jesup, Patricia Frost of Hudson and Chris Brustkern of Washburn.

Preceded in death by: his parents; a daughter, Lynnae Brustkern Tuttle; a granddaughter; two brothers, Richard and Cleo; and a sister, Donna Mae Fry.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
