WATERLOO - Ora Jean Mapes, 82, of Green Valley, Ariz., formerly of Waterloo and Dubuque, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, in Green Valley of natural causes.

She was born June 17, 1919, in Waterloo, daughter of Orin and Nellie Stanfield. She married Sherman Mapes in 1937.

Survived by her husband; two sons, James of Ankeny and Richard of Spokane, Wash.; a daughter, Julie Lavacek of Benton, Wis.; and seven grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a son, Robert Lewis; a daughter, Carolyn Ann; and a sister, Mary Collins.

Memorial services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Green Valley Mortuary Chapel, with burial in Waterloo.
