Funeral services for F. Alan Brennan, 52, of Traer, were held Monday afternoon, Dec. 6, 1999, at Overton Funeral Home in Traer with Rev. Marshall Monthei, pastor of the Traer United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Buckingham Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Kubik-Finch Post #142. Members of the Traer American Legion Kubik-Finch Post #142 also served as casket bearers.

Alan died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

He was born March 10, 1947, at Waterloo, Ia., the son of Francis John and Goldie (O’Brien) Brennan. In his early years Alan made his home at La Porte City, where he graduated from high school with the Class of 1965.

Alan enlisted in the U. S. Air Force, serving his country during the Vietnam War.

Following his discharge he returned to live in Waterloo, where he was employed by John Deere Tractor Company.

On May 30, 1980, Alan married Margie Twedt at Cedar Falls and the couple made their home in Traer.

In free moments Alan was an authority on the Civil War and for 18 years had addressed the fifth grade class on that historical event. He was also a Civil War re-enactor and organized the re-enactment of the Civil War for the Traer Celebration in 1998.

Alan retired from John Deere in August 1997 after 25 years of service. For the past three years he had been in failing health.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Traer American Legion.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Alan is survived by his wife, Margie, of Traer; his step-mother, Marjorie Brennan of Waterloo; four children, Alan Nathaniel Brennan of Minneapolis, Minn., Shauna Cottrill of Wichita, Kan., Alan Armstrong of Waterloo and Kelli Carroll of Waterloo and eight grandchildren.
