WATERLOO - Earl V. Zearley, 99, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001. at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born Nov. 4, 1901, in Elkport, son of John "Jake" and Emma Lewis Zearley. He married Gladyce Lininger on Dec. 24, 1925, in Waterloo. They later divorced. He married Lavera E. Niehaus on Feb. 9, 1952, in Waterloo. She died Dec. 13, 1998.

Mr. Zearley graduated from Gates Business College and worked as an accountant at the former Bryant Paving Co., and Standard Glass and Paint Co. He then managed the Federal Discount Co., Mason City, and the State Loan Co., Waterloo. In 1957 he established Courtesy Finance Co., which he owned and operated for 11 years, retiring in 1968. He was past president of the Waterloo Chapter of National Association of Credit Men.

Survived by a son, Lary of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by three brothers, Eli, Roy and Clive; and two sisters, Lizzie Hook and an infant.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Cedar Falls, with private burial in Garden of Memories, Waterloo. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until services Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Mayo Clinic Cancer and Heart Reserach Program or charity of donor's choice.
