Mylon "Mike" Pippinger, 78, of Independence, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, after a brief illness.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; three sons, Duane of Johnson Creek, Wis., Charles of Colfax, Wis., and Gary of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Jean Robinette of Johnson Creek, Bonnie Badman of Eau Claire, Wis., and Patricia Lasko of Sparta, Wis.; 24 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Shirley Hodges of Lake View, Ark., and Sharon Kelly of Chippewa Falls, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vera, in 1986; two daughters, Susan Pecha and Diane Schliesman; a son, Michael; two brothers, Leroy and Larry; and two sisters, Edna Eng and Barbara Skattebo.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at White Funeral Home, Independence, with burial in Garden of Memories, Waterloo; graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 339 of Fayette. Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Pippinger was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific; he worked for John Deere, Waterloo, then was owner/operator of Mike's DX service station, Waterloo; he later moved to Fayette and worked on the maintenance crew at Upper Iowa University, retiring in 1986.
