WATERLOO —Raymond J. Miller, 79, of La Mirada, Calif., formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, Sept. 29, 1997 at home of cardiac arrest.

He was born Aug. 7, 1918, in Fort Dodge, son of James and Doris Miller. He married Ruby Sly on Dec. 28,1935, in Waterloo.

Mr. Miller was a U.S. Navy submarine torpedoman during World War II. He worked at Deere & Co. for 20 years as a machinist and supervisor in department 138. He retired from Baker Commodities in California in 1978.

Survived by his wife; three daughters, Roberta Johnson of Rowland Heights, Calif., Judith Bestler of Lakewood, Calif., and Linda Gauthier of Yorba Linda, Calif.; a son, Gerald of Yucca Valley, Calif.; 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty North of Newberry Park, Calif; and a brother, Jarnes E. of Evansdale.

Preceded in death by an infant son, Jackie Lee; two brothers, Bob L. and Kenneth; and two sisters, Lucille North and Majel Wilcox.

Services were Oct. 2 at Church of Our Fathers, on the grounds of Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Cypress, Calif., with burial in the cemetery. Forest Lawn Mortuary, Cypress, was in charge of arrangements.
