WATERLOO -- Helen L. Kirk, 89, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at UnityPoint Health - Allen Hospital.

She was born March 19, 1924, in Keokuk, daughter of Bert and Alda Mae Garrett Knowler. She married Clayton L. Kirk on May 29, 1943, in Oskaloosa; he died Feb. 22, 2003.

Helen graduated from Barnes City High School in 1941 and attended Gates Business College. She was a bookkeeper for John Rooff and Sons Construction from 1952 to 1975. She then was activity coordinator for Parkview Gardens for seven years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Parish where she was a member of St. Ellen's Circle and organized the bazaar for three years. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star and of Phi Tau Omega (Kappa Nu) Chapter.

Survived by two daughters, Carol Houk and Helen (Robert) Hill, both of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Andrea (Robert III) Houk, John (Laura) Cummings, Stephen (Cheri) Cummings, Jennifer (Robert) Drobinski and Jessica (Tom) Gallagher; 10 great-grandchildren, James and Katharine Cummings, Daniel Cummings, Ania, Emily, Abigail, Ellie Grace and Alina Drobinski, and Samuel and Finnegan Gallagher; and a sister-in-law, Lois Knowler of Oskaloosa.

Preceded in death by four brothers, Orville, Clifford, Earl and Robert Knowler.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Parish, Waterloo, with burial at 3 p.m. in Garrett Cemetery, Delta. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
