WATERLOO - Beth L. Porter Shellard, 83, of Hardy, Ark., formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at White River Medical Center of natural causes.

She was born March 8, 1922, in Fayette, daughter of Glen A. and Edna Mae King Porter. She married Laurence C. Shellard Aug. 13, 1946, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. He died Nov. 28, 1986.

She was a graduate of the Dickinson Business School, Waterloo, and worked for Viking Pump Co. until June 1965, and then moved to Hardy. She worked at Woodland Hills Corp. until April 1973 and then the King Agency from May 1973 until December 1995.

Survived by a son, Gregory L. of Hardy; a granddaughter, Wendi Madenfort of Akron, Ohio; a great-grandson, Gary W. Madenfort of Akron; a brother-in-law, Frank Buhlman of Waterloo; two nieces, Joan Moore of Marshalltown and Lynne Reith of Waterloo; and four nephews, Terry Shellard and Jerry Shellard, both of Nebraska, Tom Robinson of Bainbridge, Wash., and Jim Buhlman of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Donald Porter; and four sisters, Doris Porter, Laurette Garrey, Lucille Robinson and Grace Buhlman.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Katharine Graham Pahl Chapel, Memorial Park Cemetery, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to First Congregational Church.
