WATERLOO - Doris A. "Dea" Nelson, 55, of Eldridge, formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, Aug. 22, 2005, in Davenport.

She was born Dec. 20, 1949, in Waterloo, daughter of Ben J. and Irene E. Lauterbach Miller. She married Brad Nelson on Dec. 20, 1987, in Bettendorf.

Mrs. Nelson served as a nurse in the U.S. Army Reserves under the Detachment 1 of the 4224th U.S. Army Hospital for 12 continuous years. She earned a bachelors degree in nursing in 1993 from Marycrest College of Nursing, and in 2004 received her masters degree from Western Illinois University. She was a 20-year employee of the Bettendorf Community School District, where she taught in the Family and Consumer Science Department at the high school and was president of the Iowa Reserve Officers Association.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Susan (Andrew) Cripe of Syracuse, Ind., and Mlyea Nelson of Eldridge; a son, Brent (Liz) Tapper of Oelwein; a granddaughter; and her mother of Park View.

Preceded in death by her father.

Services: 1 p.m. today at Christs Family Reformed Church, Eldridge, with burial in Mount Joy Cemetery, Park View. Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements.
