WATERLOO - Harold K. Dawson, 83, of Waterloo, died at home Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005.

He was born Feb. 4, 1922, in Waterloo, son of Max and Anna Ketner Dawson. He married Lila Austreng on July 13, 1944, and they later divorced. He then married Catherine E. "Katie" Fernau on Dec. 11, 1954, in Ponca, Neb.

Mr. Dawson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He had owned/operated Central Battery and Electric for 20 years.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Ronald (Kim) of Montgomery, Ala., Raymond (Lydia) of Sacramento, Calif., Rex (Karen) of Fair Oaks, Calif., Roger of Jacksonville, Fla., and Richard (Linda) of Queen Creek, Ariz.; a daughter, Connie Dawson of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond in infancy, Robert and Donald; and three sisters, Eva Ayers, Betty Smith and Helen Cummings.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623.
