HUDSON - Cecil E. Abben, 70, of Hudson, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 11, 1934, in Hudson, son of Richard and Malinda Degener Abben. Cecil was raised in Hudson and graduated from the local high school with the class of 1953. Following high school he served his country in the U.S. Army during peace time and then returned to Hudson. He married Norma Fendley, and they made their home in Hudson. Cecil worked at the A & L Bakery for many years.

In his spare time he was an active member of the Hudson AMVETS, loved to spend time with his family and friends, and dearly loved his grandchildren.

Survived by a son, Edward (Heidi) of Waverly; two daughters, Melissa (John) Hale of Bondurant and CeAnn Abben of Ankeny; two grandchildren, Caitlin Hayungs of Bondurant and Faith Abben of Waverly; a brother, Don (Fern) Abben of Waterloo; and three sisters, Darlene (Don) Pearce of Waterloo, Shirley (Clifford) Schilling of Nashua and Karen (Gary) Fleming of LaPorte City.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, LaVern.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Timothys Lutheran Church, Hudson, with private inurnment at a later date. Military rites will be conducted at the church by Hudson AMVETS Post 82. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

He will be deeply missed.
