WATERLOO - Virgil Gann, 80, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at ManorCare Health Services of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 22, 1925, in Burnesville, Miss., son of Jim and Leona Newcomb Gann. He married Mildred Dehl; they later divorced. He married Esther Stafford in November 1976 in Denver, Iowa.

Mr. Gann served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945 during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Virgil Gann Jr. of Rui Doso, N.M., and Randall Gann of Tallahassee, Fla.; two stepsons, Tom (Deb) Roberts and Gary Schoonover, both of Waterloo; three daughters, Nancy (James) Dewater of Milton, Fla., Geri Sharp of Savannah, Ga., and Pam Kuecker of Waterloo; three stepdaughters, Sandra Hagle of Newton, Carol (Mike) Peters of Waterloo and Teresa Schoonover of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim (Betty) Gann of Evansdale; and a sister, Marjorie Tubbs of Coldwater, Miss.

Preceded in death by a son, Kent Earl; and a sister, Elaine Williams.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith Assembly of God, Elk Run Heights, with burial in Garden of Memories, Waterloo. Military rites will be conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and Waterloo AMVETS Post 19. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.
