WATERLOO - Sister Anne Marie Stickling RSM, 103, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Waterloo, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005, at Queen of Angels Health Center, Sacred Heart Convent, Cedar Rapids.

She was born Dec. 14, 1901, in Ambia, Ind., daughter of Henry and Anna Schroeder Stickling. She entered the Cedar Rapids Community of the Sisters of Mercy in 1929, and professed perpetual vows in 1935. She received her bachelors degree from St. Teresas, Winona, Minn., and also attended Mount Mercy College, Cedar Rapids; Loras College, Dubuque; Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls; and Gongaza University, Spokane, Wash. Her first ministry was education, teaching elementary and middle school levels of English and science at St. Wenceslaus, Cedar Rapids; Saint Cecelia, Ames; St. Xavier, Manchester; and Sacred Heart, Oelwein.

In 1936 she began additional advanced education in the field of X-ray technology. She served at the Mercy hospitals in Oelwein and Anamosa, and Kalispell General Hospital, Kalispell, Mont. She became the assistant director of the first School of X-ray at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. In this capacity, she also served as the main instructor at the school, teaching from 1955 to 1971. In 1982, she retired to Sacred Heart Convent.

In 1984, she came out of retirement to accept a volunteer position as parish visitor at St. Mary Church, Marshalltown, a position she held until 1989. She also volunteered at St. Nicholas, Evansdale.

Survivors include a nephew and several nieces.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Sister Mary Inviolata Stickling RSM and Amelia Worster.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Convent Chapel, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, both in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at Sacred Heart from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. wake service. Visitation also 10 a.m. until services Wednesday. Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, is in charge of arrangements.
