WATERLOO - Delbert L. Wood, 82, of Waterloo, died Sunday, June 22, 2008, at the Western Home of natural causes.

He was born May 28, 1926, in Waterloo, son of Willard and Hazel Heatherton Wood. He married Mildred Holler on June 3, 1947, in Waterloo. She died Nov. 24, 2006.

Mr. Wood was employed with the Illinois Central Railroad for 42 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

Survived by a son, Delbert Lawrence "Larry" Jr. (Denise) of Pekin, Ill.; three daughters, Josephine Ann "JoAnn" (Lou) Muniz of Dover, N.H., Karen R. Wood of Waterloo and Jeanne F. (Gary) Levendusky of Sumner; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Berwyn of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a brother, Willard; and a sister, Jeanne McClain.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo and Evansdale AMVETS posts 19 and 31. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
