Clare Anne (Harshbarger) Jacobsmeier, 63, died peacefully on June 21, 2008 in the care of Hospice after a lengthy illness. Formerly of Sturgeon Bay, WI, she had recently moved to Neenah, WI and resided at Manor Care.

Clare Anne was born in Waterloo, IA on January 3, 1945, to Darwyn & Helen Harshbarger. She graduated from Columbus High School. In 1980 she enrolled in the University of Northern Iowa and graduated with honors earning a BA. In Waterloo she worked for Lutheran Social Services, the Black Hawk County Youth Shelter, and was the Coordinator for Project TEAM. Clare Anne then earned her Masters degree at the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, where she graduated with high honors.

After graduation she worked in St. Louis, Washington, DC, and did service work in Romania before moving to Sturgeon Bay. Before retiring she spent the last 14 years as the Community Support Program Manager for Door County Community Programs. No matter where Clare Anne was living or working she was best at helping others overcome adversity and realize their full potential. She was a true champion of the underdogs of our society. By example she taught those lucky enough to know her and she will be profoundly missed.

She is survived by her children, Debra (James) Lawrence of Appleton, WI and Paulette Jacobsmeier of Chicago, IL; her sister, Toni (Eldon) Muller of Monticello. IA; her brother Chris (Kathy) Harshbarger of Cedar Falls, IA; and her sister-in-law Mary Harshbarger of Canton, GA. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Ethan and Rachel Lawrence of Appleton WI.

She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Joseph Jacobsmeier, and two brothers, Stephen Harshbarger and Paul Harshbarger.

A memorial Mass will be held at Queen of Peaceh Catholic Church formerly St. Josephs in Waterloo, IA at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, with a gathering following in Scallon Hall to celebrate the life of Clare Anne. The family will greet friends at 10:00 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date in Sturgeon Bay, WI. There will be no visitation or service prior to Saturday, June 28th at Queen of Peace.

Memorials may be directed to the family in lieu of flowers.
