Thomas H. Pierce, 74, of Tripoli, died at home Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008 of cancer.

He was born Dec. 12, 1933, in Waterloo, son of Harold and Esther Mence Pierce. He married Anna Lengfelder on April 14, 1956, in Munich, Germany.

Mr. Pierce served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed as a firefighter for the Waterloo Fire Department, retiring on June 1, 1989, after 31 years.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Timothy of Wyoming and Rick of Oklahoma; a daughter, Linda Pierce of Tripoli; six grandchildren, Justin Ray Elliott, Amanda Marie Pierce, Thomas Elliott Pierce, Richard Lee Pierce, Anna Lynn Pierce and Nicole Rae Pierce; three great-grandchildren, Kairi Elizabeth Elliott, Phynes Lorenz-Lee Pierce and Sara Marcea Marie Elliott; two sisters, Kathleen Summerhayes of Waterloo and Eleanor (Conrad) Wessels of Tulsa, Okla.; and a brother, Walter (Esther) of Diamond Bar, Calif.

Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Harold; and a sister, Barbara Pierce.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Waterloo, with burial in Freemont Cemetery, Tripoli. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Saturday at the church. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 137 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice of Bremer County or the church.
