WATERLOO - Hazel Elizabeth Dawson, 77, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at Allen Hospital.

She was born Dec. 12, 1930, in Sherburn, Minn., daughter of Clarence and Myrtle Jose Mowery. She married Lester Allan Dawson on Nov. 3, 1951, in Freemont, Neb.

She graduated from Creston High School in Creston and worked as a rate clerk at Kroblin Transportation for many years.

Survived by her husband; two sons, Eugene A. of Waterloo and Thomas M. (Bev) of Iowa City; three daughters, Terry (Martin) Culpepper of Waterloo, Tina (David) Heyer of LaCrescent, Minn., and Roxanne (Francis) Burns of Mason City; a sister, Peggy (Guy) Johnson of Boone; a sister-in-law, Ceola Mowery of Janesville; a brother, Harvey Mowery of Waterloo; nine grandchildren, Martin (Shannon) Culpepper, Yvonne Culpepper, Teresa Culpepper, James (Jaime) Culpepper, Joshua (Addie) Dawson, Bradley Burns, Katie Heyer, Steve (Amanda) Heyer and Holly Heyer; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; three sons, James, John and Lester in infancy; two daughters, Elizabeth and Mary, also in infancy; three brothers, Robert, Luey (Sarah) and Hugh; and two sisters, Minerva (Ed) Powers and Irene Grabenbour.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Monday.

Memorials may be directed to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
