John S. Knode, 65, died at 4:20 P. m. Tuesday at his home, 115 Beck Avenue, of a heart attack. He had worked all day at the John Deere Tractor Company.

Mr. Knode was born June 14, 1868, at Le Grand, Ia., and came to Waterloo April 5, 1912, from Chanute, Kan. He had been employed by the , Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company and its successor, the John Deere Tractor Company, since that time.

He married Miss Bessie M. Hoyt May 31, 1890. at Toledo, Ia. Mr. Knode was a member of Union Congregational Church, of Modern Woodmen of America camp. No. 2059, and of Royal Neighbors camp, No. 1167.

Surviving besides his widow are four sons: Otto G. Knode, Iowa Falls; Lee A. Knode, Des Moines; Elmer and Nell W. Knode, 115 Beck Avenue; one daughter. Mrs. John Joyce, Minneapolis, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; one brother, Ellsworth Knode, Des Molnes, and one sister. Mrs. Bert Mason, Montour, Ia.

A son, Leonard, preceded him In death Sept. 3, 1909. Four brothers also preceded him in death, Jesse L. Knode, in 1919 at Waterloo; Stephen Knode, Jan. 13, 1933; Elmer Knode, in July, 1921, at Chester, Ia., and Claude Knode, in Feb. 13, 1912, at Tama.

Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Thursday at the Klstner chapel. Rev. W. A. Buell, of Union Congregational church, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
