WATERLOO - Geraldene Mavis Lockey was born on October 25, 1920 to Orval Emerson and Veronica Loos Metcalf on a farm near Greene, Iowa. She graduated from West High School, in 1939 where she was active in band, intramural sports of all kinds and was a member of the West High Girls Athletic Association.

She married Cloyce Lockey in 1941 after being introduced on a blind date. She worked at Hinson Manufacturing Company during WW II. For many years she and her husband would help manage Travelers Motel on Washington Street, which was owned by her parents. There were two children - Michael and Linda n- she loved being a mom and was a den mother and Brownie leader. At the age of 55 she and her husband retired and traveled extensively. She loved biking with her grandchildren, aerobic dancing, golf, bridge, and crafts. She loved campfires and to walk on the beach in Florida looking for shells. She was known for making the best rhubarb pie anywhere. She loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and was thrilled to attend the Orange Bowl in 2003 with her son. Her husband of 55 years passed away in 1996. Her son gave her a Golden Retriever "Sarge" who was her pride and joy and loyal walking companion. She was a member of Cedar Heights Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her brother Eugene W. Metcalf.

She is survived by her son Michael of Waterloo, a daughter Linda Williams of Greenwood, South Carolina, four grandchildren Stacy, Eric, Christy, and Kelly; and one great grandson Evan Cage Williams; and one very special niece, Rita Kehoe, who provided incredible loving care and attention for her aunt.

Geraldene died Thursday, August 18, 2005, at Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 84.

Because of her involvement in women's athletics at West High School, the Geraldene Lockey Sportsmanship award has been established. This scholarship will be awarded yearly to a senior college bound female athlete at West High School with good athletic standing, who best displays good sportsmanship, team leadership, school spirit, and a positive attitude. Memorials can be directed to the Geraldene Lockey Scholarship in care of the Community Foundation of Waterloo and Northeast Iowa.

Visitation for Mrs. Lockey will be from 2:00 to 5:00 today at Locke Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1:30 Monday at the funeral home with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
