CEDAR FALLS - John "Johnny" Christensen, 73, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Allen Hospital.

He was born Feb. 4, 1938, in Waterloo, son of Carl and Agnes Hendersen Christensen. He married Alice Weers May 17, 1957, in Cedar Falls. They later divorced.

He worked for Martinson Construction in Cedar Falls for more than 30 years and was a self-employed mason. Mr. Christensen was a member of Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 and Cedar Falls Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Survived by a daughter, Tammy (Craig) Warmuth of Independence; a son, Kevin (Mary Kay) of Independence; four grandchildren, Ben "B.J." Shannon of Independence, Tanya (Johnny) Gates of Oelwein, and Kara Christensen and Kurtis Christensen, both of Independence; a great-grandchild, Kaden Shannon; two sisters, Rosie and Vera (James) Dow, both of Cedar Falls; and two stepsons, Scott (Tina) Bonorden and Mike Bonorden, both of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by a brother, Carl; two sisters, Esther Bandfield and Annette Minikus; a special friend, Bonnie Bonorden; and three brothers-in-law, Eldon Frisch, Lloyd Bandfield and Harvey Minikus.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday and for an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial fund will be established.
