EVANSDALE - Darryl Eugene Swartz, 79, of Boyden, formerly of Corwith and Evansdale, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Prairie View Nursing Home, Sanborn.

He was born Sept. 25, 1934, in Waterloo, son of Spencer and Eva Swartzel Swartz. He married Meredith Applegate on July 25, 1954, in Ames; she died in 1991.

Darryl graduated from Waterloo East High School. He worked as a U.S. Postal employee and served as a volunteer firefighter in Evansdale. After he retired he moved to Corwith and worked at R&R Electric. He was a member of Corwith United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge, VFW and Odd Fellows. He later became a member of United Methodist Church, Sheldon.

Survived by two sons, James (Luan) of Boyden and Jack of Storm Lake; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles of Chicago and Carl of Fort Collins, Colo.; and a sister, Georgia Secor of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Berniece and Beverly; and a brother, LeRoy.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church, Sheldon, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial at 1 p.m. Saturday in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. The Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service of Sheldon is in charge of arrangements.

Darryl and Meredith enjoyed traveling and living life together. He also spent time fishing and hunting deer and elk in the southwest Colorado Mountains with friends.
