WATERLOO - Verle J. Jurgenson, 92, of Mallard Point, Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, March 8, 2014, at UnityPoint Health - Allen Hospital.

He was born June 20, 1921, in Ellington Township, Hancock County, son of Alfred C. and Carrie M. Brade Jurgenson. He married Frances Kathryn Waldrup in Dubuque on May 22, 1943; she died Jan. 11, 1993.

Verle graduated from Garner High School in 1939, and Waldorf College in 1941, with a degree in accounting. He was an accounting supervisor in the building department and order writing department at Rath Packing Co. from 1941 to 1979. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II; was a member of First United Methodist Church, and a 65-year member of American Legion Post 138.

Survived by two nephews, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Schlei of San Diego and Douglas (Diane) Schlei of Mason City; two great-nephews, Andrew and Colin Schlei, both of Mason City; and special friends, Joe and Debra Woodhouse of Dike.

Preceded in death by a sister, Veletta Schlei.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Waterloo First United Methodist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 1623, American Legion Post 138 and the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Detail. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home.
