CEDAR FALLS - Ardis Blanche Winkelhaus Barnes, 92, of Arizona, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Dec. 14, 2013, in Tucson, Ariz., after a stroke.

She was born Nov. 3, 1921, on a farm northeast of Hartley, daughter of Fred and Ionia Walter Winkelhaus. She married James Lyle Barnes of Primghar on May 29, 1949; he died in a car crash March 23, 1960.

Ardis graduated from Hartley High School in 1939, was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and had been a life member of Hartley United Methodist Church.

Survived by three sons, Duane (Beverlee) of Independence, Mo., Lynn (Karen) of Cedar Falls and Dale (Mary) of Aurora, Colo.; a daughter, Eileen (Jim) Albin of Benson, Ariz., five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Christiansen of Hartley; and two brothers-in-law, Jack (Carolyn) Barnes of Paullina and Mel Gaudian of Arvada, Colo.

Preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services took place in Arizona in December. Plans for services and burial in Hartley will be set for a later date.
