WATERLOO - Charles Ray "Chuck" Hoffman, 76, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born Nov. 7, 1930, in Newton, son of Jacob Nathaniel and Mabel Irene Gaskins Hoffman. He married Kay Marie Ferger on May 12, 1956, in Waterloo.

Mr. Hoffman was employed at the component works of John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 28 years, retiring in 1994. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955, stationed on the Aleutian Island Adak.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Juli (George) Huber of Des Moines, Lisa (Scot) Drape of Waverly, and Jan (Lyle) Pratt and Leann Cannon, both of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Jamie and Staci Drape, Jared and Jacob Pratt; and a brother, Jay (Jeanette) Hoffman of Evansdale.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
