WATERLOO - Mildred E. Durchenwald, 82, of Waterloo, died Sunday, June 12, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 13, 1923, in Ashland, Kan., daughter of Ralph and Lillie Swanson Newman. She married Karl Anderson on Sept. 12, 1945, in Des Moines. He died July 24, 1975. She married Floyd Standley on Sept. 29, 1984, in Waterloo. He died June 29, 1989. She married Donald Durchenwald on Aug. 9, 1991, in Waterloo. He died April 29, 2004.

Mrs. Durchenwald worked for Meridith Publishing Co., Des Moines. She was a member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Greenlee of West Des Moines and Karen (Robert Jr.) Hovey of Des Moines; two stepsons, Dave (Pam) Durchenwald of Cedar Rapids and Larry (Mary) Durchenwald of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren, Angela Hovey, Melissa Sills, John Greenlee, Brad Greenlee and Greg Greenlee; four great-grandchildren, Leylin Hovey, Matthew Greenlee, Lia Greenlee and Evie Greenlee; a brother, Ralph (Doris) Newman of Des Moines; and three sisters, Martha Tharp of Winterset, Marjorie Kubik of Cedar Rapids and Virginia (Don) Phillipsen of Des Moines.

Preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Paul Swanson; and a sister, Bernadine Clark.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Deaconesses Fund of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church.
