WATERLOO - Marie E. Thome-Crowley, 82, of Waterloo, formerly of Raymond, died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

She was born Oct. 3, 1925, in Waterloo, daughter of Corliss and Anna Marie King Crowley. She married Eugene "Gene" Mathias Thome on Sept. 27, 1944, in Raymond. He died May 31, 1987. She married Keith Crowley on Nov. 6, 2002, in Dubuque.

She taught school in Black Hawk County and also Raymond, grades 1-8. She sold real estate and was assistant manager for the Grout Museum, where she managed the dinosaur program and the Russell Renseleur House. She retired in 1997 after 10 years.

She served as president on the following boards: St. Joseph Rosary Society, St. Joseph Board of Education, Don Bosco Board of Education, Archdiocese Board of Education, vice president of the Archdiocese Pastoral Board, Iowa Catholic Conference and many Archdiocese committees; president of the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary; held several positions at Covenant Medical Center; and the Archdiocese Council of Catholic Women Parlimentary for several years. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Knights of Columbus and the Elks.

Survived by her husband; two sons, Jerry (Joanne) Thome of Gilbertville and Randy Thome of Waterloo; six daughters, Janice (Tom) Kisting of Powell, Ohio, Dianne (Allan) Schons of Cedar Rapids, Sue (Steve) Porter and Lisa (Sonny) Ha, both of Overland Park, Kan., Lianne McMahon of Olathe, Kan., and Ann (Todd) Collins of Belvidere, Ill.; two stepsons, Craig (Paula) Crowley of Cedar Falls and Mike (Judy) Crowley of Burnet, Texas; a stepdaughter, Pat (Tom) Schoellen of Gilberville; 22 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 10 stepgrandhcildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Colleen Moudry of Calmar.

Preceded in death by two sons, Scott in 1973 and Mike in 1989.

Services: 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Raymond. Public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to St. Edward Catholic Church or Catholic Education.
