Michael “Mike” Douglas Fordice, 64, of Dysart, died at home Friday, March 7, 2014.

He was born May 25, 1949, in Waterloo, son of Jack and Ona Goodwin Fordice.

Mike graduated from Dysart-Geneseo High School in 1967, and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Constellation and the USS Enterprise. He worked at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 13 years and then started his own locksmith business, MD Fordice Locksmith Co. He also worked in newspaper distribution for the Wall Street Journal, Red Barron and the Cedar Rapids Gazette. He was a member of Dysart American Legion.

Survived by his parents; two daughters, Melanie Klein of Iowa City and Shannon (Ron) Hageman of Michigan; two grandchildren; a niece, Kimberly (Chad) Prichard; and two nephews, Michael (Sheila) Driscol and Nicholas Krough.

Preceded in death by a sister, Jacqueline “Jackie” Fordice Krough; maternal and paternal grandparents.

Joint services: for Mike and his father, Jack, will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Dysart United Methodist Church, with burial and military rites at Dysart Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Overton Funeral Home, Dysart.

Memorials: may be directed to the family.

Mike enjoyed racing stock cars, hunting, fishing and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
