[The Evening Courier and Reporter, Tuesday, December 20, 1921, Waterloo, Iowa]

Herman Hue, age 79, Civil War veteran, member of the local G.A.R. post for many years, and a resident of the county for 50 years, died at 12:15 a.m. today at his home, 323 Center street, after a short illness. He had been ailing for three weeks, but was confined to his bed but one week. Previous to that he had been hale and hearty, daily enjoying the companionship of comrades at Memorial hall.

Mr. Hue was born in Germany, Feb. 17, 1842, coming to America at an early age. He enlisted in the Illinois calvary at the outbreak of the Civil War and served for five years. Soon after returning to civil life, he came to this county and engaged in farming. A few years ago he retired with a competence, earned by strenuous toil and applied thrift.

For years, Mr. Hue had been an active member of Robert Anderson post, G.A.R. and his passing sounds "taps" for another of the old veterans whose place in the ranks cannot be filled.

Six children survive, as follows: Herman C. Hue, Jr., Waterloo; Fred Hue, Canada; Louis Hue, Horton, Ia.; Gus Hue, Oregon; Mrs. Mary Myers and Mrs. Agnes Brown, Waterloo.

The body rests at the O'Keefe Towne Funeral Home.
