WEST UNION - Jack Garvin, 89, of West Union, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center, West Union, of a brief illness.

He was born July 19, 1915, in Waterloo, son of Wayne and Hazel Hawver Garvin. He married Doris Rowell June 27, 1937, at Walnut Street Baptist Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Garvin attended school in Waterloo. He worked for the Kleen Maid Bread Co. until he bought Martin Hardware Store in West Union in 1947 which became Garvin Hardware. He expanded into Propane Gas Bulk Delivery Service in 1964.

Survivors include his wife, three sons, Mark of Wausau, Wis., and Noel (Chynia) and Scott (Joleen), both of West Union; three daughters, Gail Wilbur of West Union, Joy (Mike) Eischeid of Cedar Rapids and Paula (Jeff) Clark of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a sister, Waynette Kaufman of West Redding, Conn.; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by three brothers; a sister; and a son-in-law, Bob Wilbur.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bethel Presbyterian Church, West Union, with burial in West Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union, where there will be a 6:30 p.m. Masonic service. Visitation will continue after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
