WATERLOO - Ruth Ashley McGovern, 93, of Waterloo, died Thursday, April 28, 2005, at the Western Home of natural causes.

She was born June 27, 1911, in Gooding, Idaho, daughter of Edward Clayton and Clara M. Ashley Bradfield. She married Martin McGovern on Oct. 1, 1931, in Waterloo. He died April 24, 1972.

Ms. McGovern worked as a bookkeeper for Motor Winding Service, retiring in 1986.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Sheryl (Dan) Groskurth of Randalia, Michael (Ann) McGovern of Cedar Falls and Kevin (Maryjane) McGovern of Johnston; six great-grandchildren, Katie (Johnathan) Fortney of Mountain View, Calif., Allen (Keisha) Bennett of Waterloo, Mariah McGovern of Hudson, Ashley McGovern of Johnston, Kristy Groskurth of Canton, Minn., and Jason Groskurth of Manchester; a great-great-grandchild, Leah Bean of Canton; a brother, Deane Bradfield of Waterloo; a sister, Mary Estell of Phoenix; and a sister-in-law, Marie Bradfield-Steinberg of Denver.

Preceded in death by a son, James E. McGovern; five brothers, Robert, William, Max, Richard and Paul Bradfield; two sisters, Ramona Wait and Rosalie Richards; a grandson, James H. McGovern; and a daughter-in-law, Charlotte McGovern.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church on Mulberry Street, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
