WATERLOO - George W. Glenn, 89, of Waterloo, died Monday, March 6, 2006, at Lakeview Landing of natural causes.

He was born May 15, 1916, in Norway, son of J.C. and Viola James Glenn. He married Virginia A. Becker May 15, 1941, in Cascade.

He graduated from Norway High School and served in the Army stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon return he worked for CIT in Cedar Rapids and Mason City. He moved to Sheffield, where he owned a Ford dealership, and in 1955 he moved to Waterloo and became business manager for Waterloo Surgical and Medical Group.

Mr. Glenn played saxophone and sang with the Medicats and was also past exalted ruler of the Elks. He was a member and lector at St. Edward's Catholic Church. In 1989 he retired and moved to Cherokee Village, Ark., where he lived until returning to Waterloo in May 2005.

Survived by his wife, Virginia, of 64 years; a son, Robert (Nancy) of Jefferson City, Mo.; a daughter, Kathy (John) McGarry of Evergreen, Colo.; six grandchildren, Tim (Cara) Glenn, Chris (Jen) Glenn, Angie Kopriva, Tony Glenn, Shea McGarry and Ryan McGarry; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Lorraine Trosky and Viola Glenn.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Edward Catholic Church. Full military rites will be conducted at the church by American Legion Post 138 and VFW Post 1623. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Friendship Village Foundation.
