LA PORTE CITY - Ferna J. Vanderheyden, 94, of La Porte City, died Saturday, March 4, 2006, at La Porte City Nursing & Rehab Center.

She was born April 2, 1911, in Bruce Township, Benton County, daughter of Fred and Jessie Richards Elliott. She married David Vanderheyden July 28, 1929, in Kasson, Minn. He died Sept. 15, 1987.

Mrs. Vanderheyden and her husband farmed in the Geneseo area until 1963, when they moved to La Porte City. She was a member of Geneseo United Methodist Church and the Friendly Corner Club.

She was also a 1929 graduate of Geneseo High School.

Survivors include a daughter, Eugenia (Kenneth) Sears of La Porte City; three grandchildren, Margaret (Kevin) Perrinjaquet, Rhonda (Myron) Jack and Kevin Sears; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: her husband; an infant sister, Eugenia Elliott; and two brothers, Richard and Robert Elliott.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Geneseo United Methodist Church, Geneseo, with burial in West View Cemetery, La Porte City. Public visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Huisman Funeral Home, La Porte City.
