CLARENCE B. STEPHENS

Clarence Blaine Stephens, 1928 Black Hawk Street, a resident of Waterloo for 46 years, died at 3 a. m. Sunday at St. Francis Hospital of a complication of diseases following an illness of several months. He was 61 years old.

Born July 23, 1879. in Spring Creek Township, Black Hawk County, Clarence B. Stephens was the son of Henry and Nancy (Harmon) Stephens.

He married Miss Nellie Eldridge in Waterloo, Sept. 6, 1899. She died July 14. 1925. Mr. Stephens married Mrs. Bessie Ridihalgh. Sept 30, 1927, at Charles City, Ia., the couple locating at the present home here.

Mr. Stephens was employed delivering ice for the Artificial Ice & Fuel Co., for 35 years, working the past 16 years on the east side. He was a member of Union Gospel Church.

Surviving besides the widow, are the following five daughters and one son by the first marriage: Mrs. LaVon Ham, 502 Riehl Street; Mrs. Cecil Beard, 420 Saxon Street: Mrs. Amos Christy. 2014 Black Hawk Street; Mrs. Alfred Andreessen, 311 Blowers Avenue; Mrs. Charles Dray. 1705 River Street, and Glen Stephens, 118 East Tenth Street; two stepsons, Roy Ridihalph. 118 St. John's Street, and Robert Ridihalgh, 126 Hillside Avenue; 22 grandchildren; four sisters: Mrs. L. H. Engel, Whittier, Cal. and Mrs. Edith Walts, Mrs. Eva Campbell and Mrs. Maude Weaver, all of Los Angeles, Cal., and two brothers, A. M. Stephens, La Porte City, Ia., and Alonzo Stephens, Portland, Ore.

Preceding him in death were three sisters, Mrs. Addie Remington, Mrs. Cora Betts and Lillie Stephens, and one brother, E. H. Stephens.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Union Gospel church by Rev. Ivan Bachtell, pastor. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. The body was taken to the Petersen Bros. Funeral Home, where it may be viewed until 1 p. m. Tuesday, when it will be taken to the church.

Casket bearers will be C. E. Kennison. G. W. Scott, Carl Fuller, Harrison Earnest, Sylvester Cooper and Fred Reiners, all fellow employees of the Artificial Ice & Fuel Co.
