Formerly Janitor in West High
School; Body in River for
Nearly a Week.

The body of Louis Melendy, 56, formerly a janitor at West High school and Sloane Wallace Junior High school, was taken from the Cedar River here this morning near the west end of the Chicago Great Western Railroad bridge.

Louis Melendy was born Nov. 8, 1871, at Delhi. Ia., and came to Waterloo with his parents when he was 7.

Melendy was fond of fishing and mating and spent a great deal of his time on the river. He built a boat for himself last summer, and built boats for two other men, acquaintances.

He was employed as night janitor at West High School last winter, and gave up his position with the close ol schools last June.

He was a member of the Woodmen order here at one time. His parents, four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

Two children, Agnes and Myron B. Melendy, reside at 409 Third Avenue West, with their mother, Mrs. Emma Melendy, who is separated from Melendy, Frank Melendy, 1121 Bertch Avenue, is a brother, and another. brother, Charles, resides at Charles City.

MELENDY BURIED AS FISHER FOLD MOURN HIS LOSS

The body of Louis Melendy, taken Saturday, from the river he loved, was buried yesterday in Elmwood Cemetery with many of his fishermen friends gathering to pay a last tribute to the man with whom they loved to row the Cedar.

Rev. William Hardcastle, pastor of Plymouth Congregational church, officiated at the services both at the O'Keefe & Towne Funeral Home and at the grave.

Melendy was taken from the Cedar River Saturday morning by firemen. His body was found floating near the west end of the C. G. W. Railroad bridge.
