PARKERSBURG -- Donald Torval Coates, 84, of Parkersburg, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at ManorCare Nursing Home, Waterloo, of cancer.

He was born March 30, 1929, in Waterloo, son of Mabel and Donald Coates. He was married to Esther Jean; she preceded him in death.

Donald served in the U.S. Navy and retired from Viking Pump Co. in 1993 with 39 years of service.

Survived by three sons, Craig (Dawn) and Kenneth (Diane), both of New Hartford, and Keith (Carla) of Parkersburg; a daughter, Connie Ayers of Holland; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Darlene (Verdell) Thomas of Arizona; and a brother, David of Fort Dodge.

Preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Harley; and a great-grandson, Ethan.

There will be no service as per Don's request and no formal gathering. He was cremated and will be buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, New Hartford.
