CEDAR FALLS - Harry Franklin Zey, 76, of Cedar Falls, died at home Thursday, June 23, 2005, of cancer.

He was born March 31, 1929, in Prairie Home, Mo., son of Edward John and Stella Eva Rose Scheidt Zey. He married Jeanne Marie Canfield on July 24, 1959, at St. Johns Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Zey came to Waterloo in 1947 to work at John Deere Co. in Department 11. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years from 1950-1954 during the Korean Conflict. He returned to John Deere Co. and worked in the Waterloo Tractor Works Service and Marketing departments, retiring in 1986. His passion for the business quickly drew him back to the company he loved. In 1987, he was asked to come back to work on special assignment for the John Deere Tractor Works. He then transferred to the John Deere Power Systems division in 1989, as an instructor and consultant.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Randy (Diane), Rusty (Sue) and Robert (Molly), all of Cedar Falls, and Roger (Tina) of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Letisha, (fiance Christopher Murray), Cody, Conner, Chase, Jackson, William and Walker Zey; a special friend of the family, Stacey Carlson; a brother, Joe (Joyce); a sister-in-law, ClaraBelle Zey of Prairie Home, Mo.; two sisters, Pauline (Harry) Edwards and Juanita (Earl) Holliday; and nieces, nephews and numerous cousins.

Preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Paula Holliday Twenter and her husband, Mark; a brother, Donald Zey; and a grandson, Kyle Edward Zey.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family in lieu of plants.
